23 Mobile Things-Thing 23 Evaluate 23 Mobile Things

So, I'll start by saying I would definitely participate in another 23 Things in the future.  I have enjoyed the whole "Things" series!  They provide a great way to expand learning and knowledge in an an area that I love to learn more about.  I can't say how often I've referred to the "Things" with my colleagues and friends.
I dug further into the settings on my iPad and iPhone as well as tweaking the setup of school iPads.  I created a folder on the iPads that linked to library and research opportunities like elm4you.org.  I've gone back to Bamboo Paper and was glad to be reminded of Dragon Dictation.  Quick Office and Sign Now are keepers. I wish I had had the sign now when I was helping my mom sell her house.  I plan on using Pinterest to find ideas for the library and for other teachers...as well as turning them on to the possibilities.  I know some are already using it.  It was unblocked at our school this year, because it was seen as a valuable resource.  Along with this...because of the icon type organization, I'd like to expand my use of Symbaloo. Even though they were both accessible to me before... I find myself making use of the Facebook and Twitter Apps.
The Things I enjoyed most were the photo editing and the CamMe app for group shots. My niece and I had a great time with these.  I also loved the simplicity and impressive result of the Deck Slideshow Presentations app.  I think students could also have fun showing what they know with the video and audio apps. The most interesting app I found in the Education Thing was Fooducate.  I had fun using it in my pantry and even pulled it out at the grocery store.  I shared it with our Health/PE teacher, and it turned out she had already used it! Spotify makes the top of my list for Hobbies.  As much as I've been enjoying podcasts lately, it was great having tailored music on in the background.
My challenges are balancing the social/privacy inherent in so many of the apps and Things.  I also need to work on application and dissemination.  Although I do find myself often sharing...I feel it could be done with more intention especially at school. There are many apps that may be useful, but until you actually put them to use and become accustomed to them...your old ways may actually seem to be the path of least resistance.  I live a pretty uncomplicated life, so the many organizational tools don't seem that useful to me except for the few I use regularly. And I guess that is how these apps work for most people.   You use the ones that work for you.  And...that's what is great about the 23 Things...you don't know what you don't know. I look forward to revisiting some of my favorite apps and expanding my use of the apps that require more time to actually make them useful.
23 Mobile Things expanded my awareness about and knowledge of many apps and opportunities to use our now ubiquitous mobile devices.
