Well, during 23 Things I made an iGoogle homepage. I didn't use it much, but I decided that it would be my Thing 28 project. Then I started reading the articles and watching videos. I built the beginnings of a Netvibes account. I tried to register, but I never received the confirmation email, and it won't let me try again.
I wanted to add Library Thing, but it wouldn't allow personalization to my account. Other gadgets I added included my Facebook, local weather, Daily Beast, and a couple blogs that I follow. A kind of Netvibes wizard started some tabs for me with content.
My iGoogle account also includes Facebook, local weather, blogs, a countdown, games, popular video, To do list, Sudoku, recipes, flickr, CNN news, optical illusions, etc. I added, kept, and deleted several gadgets.
I felt like iGoogle was made a little more sense, but I've also spent the most time with it.
It just takes time to look, add, and play to figure out what you actually might use regularly.
