How many RSS feeds are people following? I have a hard enough time with the list serves that come directly to email. I see a lot of duplication of efforts. I guess you get exposure and choose what works best for you. We are trying to save time and uncomplicate our lives by becoming more and more dependent and addicted to information. How important is all this information? If there is no audience, are we really getting the message out. I understand that you build an audience, but at school we have a rather captive audience. Outside of school, I'm not sure what we could create that would draw them from all of their social networking, etc. to something that would enhance their education.
That said. If we could develop a kind of one stop shopping place for all of the resources that we try to promote in school and/or provide anytime access to online help, perhaps they would come to us in a "research pinch." "Where did she say we should look for this information?" I think this could be done on the school website. I also think there would have to be substantial promotion for it to catch on. I also think that it would take a substantial amount of time to keep whatever venue I choose to be relevant. The question is would the "reward" justify the time... I'm already spread between three libraries from preK to high school. It keeps me quite busy!
I appreciated the Seven Tips article... Don't feel like you have to read it all... I'm a little OCD about this, and it's good advice.
Delicious, that reminds me I'm hungry. :-) I work at many different work stations, so the idea of portable bookmarks holds a lot of appeal for me. A way to organize them and search them, even better. I wish I was a little more faithful in using my Delicious account... maybe that will be the goal I leave this Thing with. But as I read, I'm thinking... Oh, for Pete's sake, now we have to have fans of our bookmarks. Here is my privacy side coming out again. I bookmark things because a friend may have asked about a topic, a family member may be questioning a medical diagnosis, I may have found a great link for the elementary, middle, or high school. Do I have to have a different account for school and personal bookmarks. Are there settings for this within the account. And who would be my audience if I am doing this to promote learning in my district... staff, students, parents???
I added a Delicious gadget to my iGoogle. I hope this will remind me to use it and get back to it.
I always feel badly that this blog sometimes veers to the negative when it comes to application. Please let me explain. One... I need time for change to sink in. Two... I can't tell how many times I have uttered the words "Things on a Stick" as I talk with people and suggest Things I've learned to help solve another person's dilemma or share some cool Thing.
Finally, I did add the Delicious gadget to my Firefox, so that Delicious bookmarks will sync with Firefox bookmarks and vice versa. That's progress... I may try to do the same with some of my other typical workstations. This might also be one I end up recommending, although I probably move around to different computers more than my colleagues.
